Anthony W.P. Fitzpatrick

Principal Investigator

Anthony Fitzpatrick is an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at the Zuckerman Institute, Columbia University, New York, USA. Previously, he was a Marie Curie International Outgoing Fellow at the California Institute of Technology (2012-2015) and the Laboratory of Molecular Biology, University of Cambridge (2015-2017). He has a biophysics background (Ph.D. with Professor Sir Christopher M. Dobson, University of Cambridge) and undertook postdoctoral training with Professors Ahmed H. Zewail (Nobel Laureate), Sjors Scheres, and Michel Goedert.

  • Tamta Arakhamia

    Research Technician

Tamta holds a B.A. in Biochemistry from Columbia University. She plans to pursue a J.D. and practice patent law primarily focused on scientific intellectual property. In her free time, she enjoys puzzles, weightlifting and hiking.

  • Andrew Chang

    Research Technician

  • Daniel Du

    Postdoctoral Scientist

Daniel obtained his Ph.D. in Materials Science at University of Minnesota in 2021. His current research focuses on electron-photon interactions and phase plates for pulsed electron microscopy. In his free time, he enjoys archery and reading.

  • Carolyn Lee

    Research Scientist

Carolyn is a seasoned lab veteran and our go-to fixer! When she isn’t in the lab, she enjoys reading, sleeping, and all things arts and crafty. (She also makes amazing home-made ice cream!)

  • William Mallen

    PhD Student

William obtained his BS in Biological Chemistry and BA in Chemistry from the University of Chicago in 2020. He uses biophysical tools such as cryo-electron microscopy and tomography to study amyloid fibrils. Outside of the lab, William enjoys skiing, hiking, and watching Bravo!

  • Mark Martinov Kirichev

    Undergraduate Research Assistant

Mark is a Computer Science student at SEAS. As part of the Egleston scholars' cohort, Mark sees research as the core foundation for Columbia Engineering's vision - "Engineering for Humanity". He is currently working on tomography analysis of various cell structures. In his free time, Mark volunteers at a dog shelter in Brooklyn.

  • Priyanka Matthews

    Undergraduate Research Assistant

Priyanka is a first-year biochemistry student at Columbia College interested in the molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases. She is passionate about scientific communication as a tool to improve inclusion in the field. In her free time, Priyanka enjoys reading and dancing on Columbia's Bhangra team.

  • Alice Mumbey-Wafula

    Research Staff

Alice plays the vital role of ensuring all research projects run smoothly. Before joining our lab, Alice worked as a research associate in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at City College of New York. Alice also taught as an Adjunct Professor at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Sciences. In her free time, Alice enjoys cooking and exercising.

  • Yuki Ogawa

    Undergraduate Research Technician

Yuki is a freshman Rabi scholar at Columbia College interested in evolutionary biology. Hailing from Japan, she is determined to empower and support female scientists in her home country. Outside of her academic pursuits, Yuki finds joy in immersing herself in drawing during her free time.

  • Marija Simjanoska

    Undergraduate Research Assistant

Marija is a senior majoring in Biochemistry at Columbia College and she is broadly interested in protein misfolding and, more recently, Lewy Body dementia pathogenesis. She enjoys cooking, cycling, and plays volleyball for the Columbia club team.

  • Silvia Toderos

    Research Technician

Silvia obtained her B.S. in Applied Mathematics at Columbia University and is currently pursuing her M.S in Computer Science, with a focus in Machine Learning. She is particularly interested in protein interaction and spread in neurodegeneration. She enjoys baking, film photography, drawing, trying out new restaurants in the city, and going to art exhibits.
